“You’re Too Quirky...”

Updated: Aug 18, 2019

The famous first and last words of a prospect last week in my email.

Needless to say my first reaction was kind of a miffed annoyance. But that quickly subsided into a wave of pride.

Hell yes, I’m quirky. I’m relatable and down to earth. I’m also creative to a magnificent degree and easy to work with. This person will never know because they didn’t want those things. And that’s fine. That’s life. Oh yeah, I'm gonna wax philosophical here... grab a yoga mat. You see, as you grow up you’ll find that there is not one key to living a good life. There are many. And many doors that those keys open. One of them is understanding that you aren’t always going to be someone’s cuppa tea. And they aren’t going to be yours. Do I think it was short-sighted on their part to dismiss my abilities under the heading of being too amazingly fun? Sure. But it also helped me dodge a big, lead bullet. So guess who wins?

My point is (yes, there is one in here somewhere) that life is far too short to waste on people who aren’t on the same wavelength as you. Do they have to be a pod-grown replica? No. God that would be hideously boring, wouldn’t it? But they should appreciate what you’re bringing to the table and vice versa. So moral of the story: be who you are. Quirky, funny, off beat, bold, loud, grumpy, gregarious, aloof. Dumbledorian... whatever. Because the second you start shifting yourself to fit in with what someone else has deemed is the way you should be, you will lose yourself. Someone put that on a freakin' poster.
